In the Beginning

I checked out In the Beginning: Creation Stories From Around the World by Virginia Hamilton from the library this week. I began reading it to Robotson yesterday, but I'm trying to keep it light.  We are reading two a day and after each I ask him what he thinks.  So far, he doesn't think much.  The best part so far was in the story of Death the Creator.  Sa has a daughter and God Alatangana convinces her to marry him in secret.  Robotson pipes up, "Hey, that's just like when Anakin and Queen Amidala ran away and got married in secret!"   The ability to find similarities in stories that he already knows is exactly what I was hoping would happen.

I also asked him how he thought the universe started.  First he said he liked the idea of Phan Ku.  The idea that someone created the universe and then died, which is why we can't see them around anymore, appeals to him.   Then he said, but he knows what really happened was the big bang, even though that still seems really weird to him.

  2. Never mind, apparently it's out of print and the remaining few copies are very expensive.

  3. Ah, but they did have it at the library! I put a hold on it. Thank you. The reviews are totally opposite, I wonder what I'll think? :)

  4. A review of the book on here would be great, if you don't mind the suggestion.
