House Moves

"To add a library to a house is to give that house a soul."
- Cicero

One day, I hope to have our own library.  Floor to ceiling shelves, nice comfy chairs, and no electronics.  It's sort of a pipe dream though.  Even if we could afford the shelving and books, we don't plan to live here forever. It would be heart-wrenching to leave our library behind.  So we do the next best thing, I look for deals on bookcases and squeeze them in wherever we can.  This week I found a way to add three (now I have an excuse for buying more books!), and convert our toy room into a school room.  However, I really dislike calling it that.  I need to find a better name.

We aren't completely done.  It needs a fresh coat of paint and I have a few maps for the walls.  The kids and I are going to try making bean bag chairs so we can sit comfortably on the floor to read.  It's so nice in here that we've barely left the room since it was finished.

Funny Girl took a few pictures of all the fun stuff we've been doing.

Most of the toys are now downstairs in our last unfinished room, which will one day be our family room.   Maybe next year...

  1. How about calling it the learning room? I know my husband calls our "school" room the room of learnings and play fun.

  3. That's my dream too. Floor to ceiling shelves on 2 of the walls, the other two walls have built in cozy benches for lounging and reading.

  4. Luna- That sounds better. :) My son suggested calling it the noisy room LOL

Grace- you all should come over :)

Summer- Yes! I even want one of those ladders that you can slide across to get to the high shelves. *sigh*

  5. Did you read the article "Home Libraries Provide a Huge Educational Advantage"? (It certainly looks like you're well on the way...)

I've been building my own dream library, too...one book at a time.

  6. Jealous! I'd love to have a room dedicated to books and learning. My own private library is pretty much a pipe dream, though, I'd love that, too. Instead our whole house is covered with bookcases in every room. We literally have no wall space left for more.....a big fat bummer!

  7. I have a vision of you on your rolling library ladder - like a scene out of Beauty and the Beast! That would be awesome. I love the new learning room, it looks fantastic. All the work you have done around the house lately is really adding up. I hope to catch some of your motivation :)

  8. Charlene- that's how my house is! I have bookcases wherever I can fit them! You have way more books than I do though :) I'm not sure I'll be able to stop buying books even if we do have a room dedicated to them. I'll probably still have shelves everywhere.

CD- Thanks for the link! I must say I agree with their findings

    Thanks Christin!
